History of Senegal!

The first people to ever step foot in Senegal were hunters in 3000 BC. By 500 AD, a community had been created in Senegal. In the 13th century, the Empire of Mali (which is a part of Africa) had included Senegal as part of the country. In the 15th century, Senegal broke away from the Empire and created its own country. During the 16th and 17th century, English, Dutch, and the French came to Senegal and stole Senegalese people and sold them into the slave trade.

Senegal has long been a part of the ancient Ghana and Djolof kingdoms. Almost 2/5ths of the people in Senegl are Wolof. Wolof people are members of a high class of society. Thier traditional structure includes a class of musicians and storytellers called Griots. Many Senegalese learn from the Wolofs traditional music and other art influences.

The capital of Senegal is Dakar. The government of Senegal is planning to move the capital closer the middle of Africa, yet Dakar will always be one of the most important cities in West Africa.

There are many musicians and artist from Senegal, Africa. Youssou N'Dour, is a legendary singer, songwriter, and composer. Baaba Maal, is a well known Africann musician. Wasis Diop, is an internationaly famous musician. Etoile de Dakar, is a band led be Youssou N'Dour and El Hadji Faye. Aby Ngana Diop, is a famous tassu musician. Thione Seck, is a famous singer and musician in the mbalax music genre.
